Smokvica Krmpotska is a small coastal settlement south of Klenovica on the Novi Vinodolski Riviera. It does not have the scale or range of services of a major resort, and that is part of its appeal. The waterfront combines a modest pebble beach, arranged concrete sections and small rocky coves, with clear water and a calm local atmosphere.
This is a place for a simple swim rather than a full day of organised entertainment. Families can choose the pebble entry, while visitors who prefer more privacy can look for space on the rocks. The shaded coastal path makes it possible to change sections without returning to the main road.

What to expect
The first thing to understand is the scale. Smokvica Krmpotska is not one long beach with a continuous row of cafés, showers and rental stands. The shore is divided into short sections. A small pebble bay provides the most conventional entrance to the sea, while concrete platforms and rocky edges continue along the coast.
The official Novi Vinodolski beach guide describes a pebbled promenade shaded by trees and hidden rocky coves. That matches what we saw. The sea is visible through the vegetation, and the mix of built and natural shore gives visitors a choice between easier access and quieter places away from the main pebble section.
Because the settlement is compact, it is possible to inspect the waterfront before committing to one spot. That is useful in high season: if the family beach is busy, a short walk may reveal a calmer alternative.
The pebble beach
The main pebble entrance is the most suitable section for families and less confident swimmers. The beach is small, so children remain easier to supervise than on a very wide urban beach. The transparent water also helps you see the seabed close to shore.
Official information identifies the pebble entry and a nearby playground as the reasons the beach works well for children. This does not mean that every part of the coast has a gentle entry. The adjoining shore quickly changes to rock and concrete, so choose the exact bathing place rather than relying on the general name “Smokvica Beach.”
Water shoes are useful. Even when the entry looks comfortable, larger pebbles can be tiring underfoot, and rocks near the edge may become slippery. On windy days, waves can also make a small beach feel less protected than it appears in calm photographs.
Rocky coves and concrete platforms
The rocky sections give Smokvica a different character from a single family beach. They suit visitors who are comfortable entering the sea from a built edge or a natural rock and who prefer to sit away from the central cove.
Our photographs show a large concrete bathing platform as well as steps and stone edges near the pebble beach. These areas can offer more room for towels, but they are not automatically easier for small children. Check the exact sea access and depth before swimming.
The small coves are also useful when the beach is crowded. They provide a quieter setting for reading or sunbathing, although flat space and shade vary from one section to another. Avoid occupying access steps or places used to reach the water.
Shade and the coastal walk
Trees along the shore are one of Smokvica’s practical advantages. The official tourism page highlights a shaded pebbled promenade, and our own images show mature greenery close to the sea. Natural shade is valuable in summer, but it shifts during the day and should not be treated as guaranteed at every bathing spot.
The walk is short rather than a destination promenade. Its value lies in connecting the different pieces of waterfront: the pebble beach, concrete platform, rocky coves and residential sections. It is pleasant for an early-morning or evening stroll, particularly when the light softens over the Kvarner Channel.
Some routes to the shore involve steps or slopes. Anyone travelling with a pushchair or with limited mobility should assess the access on site before carrying equipment down to the water.
Facilities and food
Official sources list a catering option, and the owner remembers a small café close to the beach. In a settlement of this size, however, opening hours can be strongly seasonal. Do not assume that refreshments will be available early in the morning, late in the evening or outside summer.
We have not confirmed current public toilet facilities. Check locally before planning a longer family visit.
The nearby playground is officially listed, but its exact condition and availability should also be confirmed. Treat it as a useful extra rather than the only reason to choose the beach.
Access and parking
The main road through Smokvica Krmpotska leads towards the beach area. The final streets are local and compact. The owner found the settlement straightforward to reach, but the available photographs do not provide enough evidence to promise a particular parking arrangement.
In practice, arrive earlier in July and August and read every sign. Some spaces may serve residents or private accommodation, and the road must remain clear. Do not block gates, narrow turning areas or access for emergency vehicles.
If you are combining Smokvica with Klenovica or Povile, it is usually better to drive between the settlements than to assume there is a continuous easy waterfront path. Check the route and return to the main coastal road when needed.
Who will enjoy Smokvica Krmpotska?
Smokvica is a good choice for:
- families who want a small pebble entrance and do not require extensive facilities;
- couples looking for a quiet swim on the way along the coast;
- readers and sunbathers who prefer rocky coves to a crowded urban beach;
- travellers staying nearby who value clear water and a local atmosphere;
- visitors who are happy to bring their own water, shade and beach equipment.
It is less suitable for travellers seeking a large beach club, a broad restaurant choice, nightlife or a fully accessible resort layout. Klenovica offers more of a village centre and dining tradition, while Novi Vinodolski has a wider range of urban services.
When to visit
June and September are attractive for a quieter visit, provided the weather is settled. July and August offer the warmest holiday atmosphere but put more pressure on small beaches and limited parking.
Morning is best for easier parking, calmer water and a better choice of places. Late afternoon and evening bring softer light and can make the short seaside walk particularly pleasant. Natural shade changes as the sun moves, so bring independent sun protection even when the trees look generous.
Check the wind forecast before travelling. The Kvarner coast is exposed to rapid weather changes, and a small pebble bay can feel very different when the sea becomes rough.

Our verdict
Smokvica Krmpotska is not a beach to visit for a long list of attractions. It is worth knowing for the opposite reason: a small pebble entrance, clear water, rocky alternatives and a compact waterfront shaded in places by trees.
Come prepared, inspect the shore before choosing your spot and keep expectations realistic. For families, the pebble section is the logical starting point. For a quieter swim, continue to the rocks. With that simple approach, Smokvica can be one of the most relaxed short stops on this part of the Kvarner coast.
