Obala Petra Krešimira IV is one of the best places in Novi Vinodolski for a long walk beside the sea. The waterfront stretches for about 1.3 kilometres and doubles as an urban beach: along the way you find rocks, stone sunbathing terraces, metal ladders, small pebble sections, trees and places to stop for food or a drink.
Locally, the area is also known as Bribirska obala. It is not one conventional beach with a single entrance. Think of it as a sequence of swimming spots linked by a waterfront road and promenade.

Obala Petra Krešimira IV is worth visiting even if you do not plan to swim. The route follows the western waterfront with open views across the Vinodol Channel and the island of Krk. Pine trees and stone walls frame sections of the road, while the coast changes constantly below.
The surface is generally straightforward for walking, although this is also an access road and parking zone rather than a fully separated pedestrian path along its entire length. Stay aware of vehicles, especially during the summer traffic period.
There are cafés and restaurants at intervals, but not at every swimming point. If you want a specific stop, choose it before walking the full route rather than assuming the next corner will always have one.
Where can you swim?
The official city description classifies the coast as a mix of pebbles, natural rock and arranged concrete areas. That is exactly how it feels on the ground. Some points have broad stone terraces with stairs and handrails. Others have metal ladders fixed between rocks, giving confident swimmers direct access to clear, deeper water.
These ladder entries are appealing when the sea is calm, but they require more confidence than walking in from a beach. Check the depth, waves and condition of the ladder before entering. Rough rock can also be slippery close to the waterline.
Small pebble areas are easier for families, but they are scattered rather than forming one long shore. Water shoes remain useful on both pebbles and uneven rock.
Shade, water and facilities
Trees provide natural shade along parts of the promenade, and some swimming platforms sit close to pine-covered areas. Shade moves through the day and is not available at every spot, so a parasol is still useful if you plan to stay for hours.
The city lists toilets, showers, Wi‑Fi, a playground, a street-workout area, smart benches and accessible beach equipment among the facilities on the wider coast. These amenities are distributed along a long route. Do not assume that the exact point where you choose to swim will have everything beside it.

Accessibility
The official city page lists a ramp and a lift for people with disabilities. This is valuable, but it does not make every rocky entrance accessible. Anyone who depends on step-free access should identify the specific equipped section in advance and verify that the equipment is operating.
The flatter upper road is easier to navigate than many routes down to the water. The individual swimming terraces vary significantly, and several have stairs.
Parking and summer access
The road itself functions as a controlled municipal parking area in summer. In our experience, barriers regulate entry and exit during the season. Outside the busiest period, the traffic regime can feel more open, but visitors should always follow the current signs.
As checked on 9 August 2026, the municipal rate for Obala Petra Krešimira IV was €2 per hour from 7:00 to 22:00 between 1 June and 30 September. The city also listed a €12 daily ticket for stays longer than seven hours, valid until the end of that day’s charging period. The first ten minutes at municipal car parks were listed as free.

Is it suitable for children?
Parts of the coast can work for families, especially the small pebble sections and equipped bathing areas. However, Obala Petra Krešimira IV is not uniformly child-friendly. Long stretches are rocky, and some entries use ladders into water that becomes deep quickly.
Choose the exact spot based on the youngest or least confident swimmer in the group. If you want one compact beach with a straightforward shore entry, concentrated cafés and seasonal children’s activities, Lišanj is usually simpler.
Continuing toward the resort coast
At the western end, the coastal experience continues beyond the main promenade toward the resort area. Here the shore includes larger pebbles, coves, concrete edges and dramatic rock. Our photographs show attractive, clear water and a coast that feels more open than the urban section.
Mövenpick Hotel and Residences Kvarner Bay now accepts bookings, but the resort is still taking shape. Accor states that some areas remain under construction and that several facilities, including Salterra Wellness & Spa, are scheduled to open in winter 2026. Pedestrian routes, services and access can therefore change; confirm current conditions with the operator before relying on this section of coast.

Best time to visit
Morning is best for swimming, calmer light and a better choice of parking. Late afternoon and sunset are excellent for walking: the western view can turn the entire channel orange, and the rocky coast looks especially dramatic.
In strong wind or rough seas, ladder entries become much less inviting. On those days, use the promenade for a walk and choose a more sheltered shore for swimming.
